Brutis and Bennie Norton (along with owners Amanda and Mike), certainly
put on the JRT charm to raise money for the Walkathon! Many thanks to
those of you that either pledged, walked, or came out and helped during
the weekend!
In memory of Lucy, Ann Rohmer's loving and loopy companion of 16 years. My thoughts are with you Ann.
I was contacted in September of 2007 by the Montreal SPCA regarding a JRT that had come in as a stray. They had adopted him out, but he went to a family with children, and he bit one of the kids, so he was returned, and scheduled to be euthanized. She asked if I would consider taking him. I said I would take him and assess him to see if he was adoptable. She informed me that he understood both French and English. I made transport arrangements for him, and he arrived the following weekend. Throughout the years, I have fostered many JRTs, and each one of them has been special and unique. But this boy was different. Right away, his personality filled the house with joy and happiness. He was so outgoing, he loved everyone and always wanted to stop and say hello. He loved having his belly rubbed, and would give you big, wet, slobbery kisses in the face. He seemed to cherish every moment of his new life with us.
The only issue he had was that he was a runner, and that was undoubtedly how he ended up at the shelter. If there was ever an opportunity to get away, he ran. Although I started working hard on developing a recall with him, it never took. On May 21, we were attending flyball classes, and I opened the door to his crate, and he pushed his way out before I could grab him, and took off. He ran onto the road and was hit by a van. With the help of Jan Price and Aaron Robbins, I got him to the Emergency clinic and they were able to stabilize him fairly quickly, and the prognosis seemed good. However, early Friday morning, he stopped breathing, and they were unable to resuscitate him. He left us at approximately 2:30 a.m., Friday, May 23, 2008.
We love you Wish, and miss you terribly. I hope you are getting to run to your heart's content, wherever you are.
